Giant Alaskan Malamute
Giant Alaskan Malamute MalAMail
|
For many years the "Giant" Alaskan Malamute has been known and speculated to be up to "200" lbs or more. With no actual proof of any of these malamute's true weights and no vet scale weights on any of these supposed alaskan malamutes - these phantom malamutes are not known to "truly" weigh these weights. Overweight mals are not factored in.... This pertains to average lean working and functioning dog weights. In fact with the IWPA(International Weight Pull Association) any dog that is pulled has to have his/her official weight taken at the time of the pull to be put in a specific size class. I have yet to see a "200" lb Alaskan Malamute recorded on any IWPA event. Some great Mals have pulled and weighed in between 150 and 180 lbs, but these are rare Alaskan Malamutes. Anyone can look this up for themselves. In fact there are very few Malamutes even over 150 lbs compared to the number of Alaskan Malamutes in the U.S. In saying this I do not know if there is or ever was a malamute bigger than 180lbs. But it is frustrating as an honest person knowing my dogs weights and knowing I have done my best to research all Malamutes and pedigrees in the U.S. and have been to most of the well known kennels all over the U.S (coast to coast), and have yet to see a "200" lb Alaskan Malamute, in my opinion. I in my heart have to tell you the truth and what an official vet scale or airline scale says on My dogs weights. Not what I THINK they may weigh. But my Malamutes are the largest anywhere in the U.S. Many of my female malamutes being the largest I have seen anywhere alive today. Sumo is the second largest Malamute in the U.S. that I have personally seen. Comparable to the largest malamute I have seen alive at Marlene Ross's Kennel "Red Giant". In saying this I guess I can't say I have the Heaviest Malamutes. But I can say I have some of the Largest Malamutes Anywhere in the U.S. Just to give you an idea how large Sumo is he is 4 inches short of 4 foot tall at the top of his head standing on all four legs. But I just say 42 inches at the top of his head and 32 inches at the shoulder so no exaggerations are there. So by many peoples visual accounts Sumo weighs "200" lbs. But truly he doesn't even come close. Would it be better to do as many say and just not weigh my dogs and guess there weights and then tell you what I think they weigh?
In the end weight and size shouldn't be your first reason in buying a malamute. But coming to Hudson's Malamutes for a great dog that will live many happy healthy years should be. It is because my dogs Health and Temperament are first here. And we strive to be the best we can. And to the plus side of owning one of my Malamutes is you may own one of the Healthiest, Well Tempered, Well Mannered LARGEST Alaskan Malamute anywhere in the U.S.
